I studied Textile Design BSc Honours at The University of Huddersfield and achieved a 2:1 The science area of my studies was most enjoyable especially the science of colour and dyeing. I specialised in print making and was lucky enough to land an industrial placement in a design studio during my year out where I designed and coloured wall paper designs which were successfully sold in New York and the United Kingdom.

After uni it was off to work I go - I was lucky enough to be appointed as a showroom assistant at The Claremont Fine Furnishings Company Limited, wet behind the ears, but very eager to learn. For me Claremont was the most fascinating and engaging place to work. It was a privilege to work at this 'aladdin's cave of fabrics and trimmings' for just over 5 years. Everyday I would get to deal with the cream of the interior design industry putting together the most exquisite schemes, this is where I truly learnt about the interplay of pattern, scale and colour. My talented colleagues taught me so much and allowed me to travel to Venice, Paris, New York and LA working in the showrooms and visiting small European textile and passementerie manufacturers.

Over the last decade I have worked for a variety of British textile designers, print and weave manufacturers including Neisha Crosland, Bernard Thorp, Ralph Lauren and Bute Fabrics colouring collections and selling them to the trade.

I met my gorgeous husband at Claremont and after many fun filled years we settled down to have a family. Material Girl Fine Furnishings became a Limited company just over two years ago and is engaged in 'making' curtains, roman blinds and soft furnishings on some fantastic projects with both the trade and private customers. All projects have been won through word of mouth and have been a pleasure to be involved in.

The cushion collection has evolved from years of collecting unusual fabrics and trimmings. The cushion market is flooded with product, but the collection offers an eclectic mix of beautifully made pieces that will compliment your existing interior scheme or inspire an entirely new colour scheme. Material Girl brings to you unique soft furnishings and a slice of textile heaven!
